BSU hosts XXXII Congress of Eurasian Association of Trade Union Organizations of Universities

Baku State University hosted the XXXII Congress of the Eurasian Association of the Trade Union Organizations of the Universities (EATUOU) dedicated to 100th anniversary of the foundation of BSU.

Rector Elchin Babayev provided a short background on the establishment of Baku State University. He noted that the decision on establishment of university in Baku was made on 01 September 1919 during the assembly of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic’s Parliament.  The University started its 1st educational year with two faculties – faculty of philology and medical faculty with 1094 students and became the source of pride for all Azerbaijani people.

Main topic of the congress was “Social and Labor Relations at the Universities in the Context of Global Integration and Increased Competition.” The congress was attended by the heads of the trade union organizations of the universities – members of the EATUOU, representatives of trade unions of the employees, engaged in the field of education and science, heads of the universities, as well as representatives of the executive and legislative branches.

EATUOU President I. Kotlobovsky made a presentation on the activities of the organization. He outlined the role of trade unions for resolving social issues and emphasized the importance of expanding the activities of these organizations.

The Chairman of the Congress working group, vice-president of EATUOU, Chairman of the Trade Union Organizations of BSU Fikret Shiriyev touched upon the contribution of the congress to the international reputation of the university.

The Eurasian Association of Trade Union Organizations of Universities  is a voluntary association of the trade union organizations of the employees and students of classical universities of the CIS countries, as well as other states of the Eurasian continent, created to preserve and develop existing ties, join efforts, mutual assistance and coordinate the activities of member organizations in the interests of its members.
